Elazig city 531 km (329 mile) to Cappadocia and 1216 km (755 mile) away from Istanbul. Elazig located in eastern part of Turkey. Elazig is the most orderly city of the region, due to its being recently founded in the 19thcentury. It is situated on a plain near a mountain and is surrounded by vineyards and gardens. The Keban and Karakaya Dams and their artificial lakes contribute to the growth and general appearance of this rapidly developing city.

The attraction of Elazig is the Byzantine Fortress of the ancient city Harput, 5 kms to the north. There are also several mosques of the Seljuk period. Lake Hazar, 25 kms south of Elazig, is a fine tranquil site, while. Buzluk Cave, 12 kms northeast, is an interesting cave, which remains cool in the summers and warm in the winters.

The local food varieties of Elazig – Harput displays a great variation and riches according to the properties of the region. The city has lots of original food varieties which are remembered by the name of the city. These meals are cooked with the name of Elazig meal in numerous regions of Turkey. Kellecos, isgene, Harput kofte (Meat balls), tas ekmegi (Hard bread), peynir ekmek (bread with cheese), fodula, gomme, ufalama, sogurtme, iskin, pirpirim, hesude, gaygana, pestilli yumurta, dolangel, kalbur hurmasi, dilber dudagi could be counted among the food and desert varieties peculiar to Elazig. Good restaurants are; Nail Usta Kebab Salonu, Orjin Iskender, Saray Lokantasi, Kocoglu Lokantasi etc.
